2024 resolutions

ryanamor.com December 13, 2023

Why wait, when you can start now?

  1. Don’t wait, just do it. For someone who has been wearing Nike for decades, I wasn’t really smart enough to believe that the slogan actually works.

  2. Stick to what you’re really, really good at and perfect it.

  3. Words have power; use them responsibly.

  4. Words have consequences; be careful with them.

  5. It’s okay to be selfish rather than come off as insincere.

  6. Edit, edit, edit. You don’t need to buy that fourth tiny block of $40 cheese just because you saw it in a movie.

  7. It sucks, but opt for dental care over YSL.

  8. Read more, stream less.

  9. Cook more but eat less.

  10. Your creativity is boundless; just let go…

What do you have planned for 2023?

ryanamor.com January 3, 2023

Hope springs eternal as they say, so even if I enter 2023 with not enough money (it’s never enough isn’t it?) or personal accomplishment (where’s that novel huh?) or abs (my thighs have grown muscular though), I have an (over) abundance of hope- and the will to try, and try again.

As I’ve always said, if you’ve stopped trying or fallen behind a certain threshold of trying, you might as well check out (not literally).

A new Moleskine notebook and a Lamy pen which were Christmas gifts, seem to present the perfect opportunity to start a diary, right Lei?

Never too late to start a diary

ryanamor.com January 4, 2020

I’ve never done a diary partly because I’ve never really developed a good penmanship. And there was always a type-writer or my dad’s secretary Rebecca who typed up my short-stories. To this day, I wonder how she transcribed it; it’s either I wrote the manuscript out painstakingly well, or she completely deciphered what I had written, because a whole lot of them got published.

But I’ve come to realise after a few entries that writing by hand is a much more enforceable discipline. I don’t waver or question my thoughts as much as I often do lately with blogging. My penmanship is the same awful upper-case printed mess, but it doesn't bother me. I’ve had enough of reasons that turn out in the end to be just excuses.

I’ve done an entry since the new year; here’s to the rest of the year and beyond.
